Each of these chapters describes the types of the spray nozzles available and provides performance correlations. Three chapters cover the design of systems and selection of nozzles. This section discusses the effects of liquid physical properties on the spray that is produced, which is a critical issue for process applications, due to the wide range of surface tension and viscosity of fluids sprayed. Designing systems to achieve a high degree of reliability is more critical today in many applications. This section also has practical perspectives for design controls for spray systems, a topic not covered in other spray technology books. Example calculations throughout the 15 chapters enable the reader to use the equations to solve some problems immediately.

Great resource!

This book is a must read for those who need to understand how spray mozzles are deigned, how they work, and how to troubleshoot. This is a very specialized area of engineering, but when this type of equipment is critical (in food processing, powder processing) it's critical to know how to design and operate this type of equipment properly. This book takes a lot of the mystery out of this field.

Unexpected, Quality Read. Something for any young man's nightstand.

There are a lot of books out there on sex and dating. The majority are written by swindlers regurgitating some other con’s derivative work. I think of a lot of it as that ‘whispers’ game you played as a kid. One person starts a rumor and then 10 books later you have whole books filled with nonsense. Then an enterprising young broscientist spouts off hearsay as facts to a big email list, and that’s your popular male ‘dating’ books. Given that, I was pretty quick to lump this book in with the rest when I first heard about it a while back.

A few articles in my feed about the book later, curiosity got the best of me and here we are, writing a positive review for a Tucker Max dating book. Not where I planned to be at this exact moment in time, but hopefully useful to give some thoughts on the book. I think the mix of Max’s bro instincts, Miller’s academic background, and their co-writer Nils Parker’s writing abilities make this the best book currently available for young men looking for more information on dating (or at least that I’ve come across). There was first hand research for the first time I’d seen in a book in this category, and simple advice based on legit science and no ‘pump yourself up and get out there’ motivational speaker type nonsense.

The book itself is broken into a 5 step process:

- internal dialogue (building self confidence, etc)
- working on yourself (getting in shape, getting your life together)
-displaying yourself properly (signaling, social proof, etc)
- putting yourself in the best situations to find a compatible mate
-finally "take action" which outlines the author's research and thoughts on the (talking to women, dating women, etc)

Personally I my favorite part of the book was the final bit, the mating markets chapter. I’m in a relationship, but I chucked a bit flashing back to my days pounding my head against the wall after another “unsuccessful” night getting hammered at some s***ty bar. It hit close to home.

There is a ton more, but I’ve already given a bit more time to this review than planned, so all I’ll say is the rest was all as they proclaim -- things I wished I had learned a little bit earlier. I think it would be a good gift (maybe give anonymously) to most young dudes out there.

No matter what your age, I’m sure you’ll still pick up a few new things to think about. I strongly recommend.

I've been following this advice for 6+ months and totally changed my life. I now go out on 3-4 dates a week.

With help from Tucker and Nils (authors of this book) I've been getting better with women on Helping Joe (part of the Mating Grounds podcast) for the last 6+ months. Dr. Miller's advice via the Q&As has also been super helpful.

I went from moving to a new city (Austin) where I only new a few people and had 0 women in my life, not even anyone on my radar or prospective "she's cute, maybe I should ask her out" girls... to now going on multiple dates a week, easily meeting new women, and dating a few girls casually.

The same advice they gave me is also in this book.

Personally, my favorite chapters are...

Chapter 2 -> How different (and sometimes scary) it is to be a woman (What it's like to be a woman)

I re-read this like 2-3x, so enlightening. And the Perspective-Taking Exercise they have the end of this chapter is a great way to better understand women every day. Great stuff.

Chapter 3 -> Clarify mating goals and how to figure out where you are in life and what you want

The Exercise to figure out what you want at the end of this chapter is super helpful. I took 10 minutes and I came away with a lot better idea of what I wanted (short+medium term relationships).

Chapters 15 & 17 -> Mating markets and how to put yourself in a place to do really with women

I remember when they first talked about this on the podcast and it blew me away because it was such a simple concept that 99% of all dating advice misses, like doesn't even f*cking mention, but it's so important.

Where you live (from country to city to neighborhood) & where you hang out (work and play) matters A LOT. The podcast episodes they did on this were great but the book gives a much better breakdown.

I'm obsessed with elaborate etiquette manuals, weird instructional films from the 1950s, creepy books about how to pick up women or hypnotize people to do your bidding. Attempts to shape human behavior are as fascinating as human behavior itself. It was in this spirit that I jumped into Mate, not quite knowing what to expect.

Damn, I was blown away.

As a woman, I'm not the target audience for this book. But I have this to say: ATTENTION ALL GUYS, READ THIS NOW! Yeah, this book will get you laid. But more importantly, it'll make you a better, happier, healthier person. Unlike a lot of "self help" books, this one is based upon actual science. The authors bring in a ton of insights based on what real women actually want and care about, and they've distilled all this stuff into a detailed, comprehensive manual that should be required reading for any dude before he is allowed out into the world. Speaking from the perspective of a woman who has turned down countless guys for countless reasons, I can say with assurance that the insights in this book are super-accurate and powerful. And not at all sexist or creepy/manipulative. If every guy read this in his late teens or 20s (or even older — it's never too late), it would raise the overall happiness level of *everyone* by a lot.

You will find anythin' in here but limited to Europe... : waves theory, advices, spots with maps and directions, meteo. Most of spots can be visited and the surfing possibilities that are described in here will be enough to fill anyone's surfing life!

A Treasure Chest for the Travelling Surfer

This book proved to be a very valuable resource of valid and accurate information pertaining to surf spots I have visited last summer in Europe. I surfed northern denmark and germany, and even though these are not very common surf spots, the book had information about spots, and it was a great help. This book not only attempts to provide information on the surf-quality of the particular spot, it also gives a little bit of insight in the surf culture of the area and other information and tips that might not seen obvious at first glance but does prove to be very interesting and worth reading. Unlike atravel agent's brochure it is very unbiased and allows surfers to travel "their way". In Planning my surf trip to France nex summer, this book gave me a place for reference and also allowed me to "float" around in it, checking out this spot or another. The thousands of photographs give the spots a face, making the book not only informational but also very entertaining to read. It lets the reader dream of a perfect vacation and then proves a very valuable tool to realize that dream and turn it into a reality.

This is the most awesome book on surfing Europe imaginable, covering all the best spots (and then some) from Scotland to Italy, from the Azores to Germany, and everywhere inbetween! Surf in Amsterdam? You betcha! It also includes Morocco. It is full of incredibly professional high-tech, accurate maps, pictures, write-ups, and gauges a variety of conditions for each spot- such as water temp, crowd factor, quality of wave, direction wave breaks, power of wave, ocean (break) bottom, what sort of rubber you'll need, etc. Since you'll notice that Amazon is often out of stock on this, or that it takes '3-5- weeks for delivery', I recommend surfing to Amazon.com's UK site (amazon.com.uk) and ordering directly from them in England- you'll pay a little more for shipping, but they usually have it in stock and you'll be sure to get your copy sooner. Not just a book about fat girls. An amazing, mind altering book about body image and how to learn to love and respect yourself.

I would like to thank Perseus Books Group, Seal Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an open and honest review.

Wow. What a book! To let you know what interested me in reading it: I’m tall (6’2), fat (hovering in the 17 stone range) and - a scary trifecta to some – smart (not Mensa). And, on top of that all I am at peace with my inner self… while not a big fan (actually totally the most horrific enemy) of my outer, physical self. And I am sarcastic, brash and blunt and LOVE reading stuff by sarcastic, brash and blunt women!

With me so far? This was the sort of book I was interested in as sceptical me didn’t think anything could change my opinion of myself. It’s my opinion… of MYSELF… so of course I’m an expert. ;-)

Okay, so I can’t say this book has turned me into a total convert who LOVES herself and is proud of herself… but it has made me wake up and realise all those positive things I’m always telling people about themselves, all those positives I try and seek in every situation… I’ve been turning a blind eye to seeking those positive in my physical self. THAT is what this book has done.

‘Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls’ isn’t about being fat. It’s not about being thin. It’s not even about being a girl. This book is about having the reader wake up and realise how awesome they are. I do this, I am constantly telling people they are worth it, they are important… but I only focus on what is within as I can’t cope with facing my own exterior. This isn’t a book about fat, thin, girls, boys, etc. It’s about your exterior and how the only way others are going to accept it for what it is, is if you do so first. And I thank Ms Baker for that. For years it is something I’ve struggled with and she’s finally been the person to prise open that stubborn willed door to help me start to see this.

This book is not encouraging you to be fat. Not asking me to give up my ‘foodie ways’ and embrace pizza and over eating and getting unhealthy. None of that is even MENTIONED. But sadly that’s what a lot of people I spoke to thought when they heard the word ‘fat’. This book is trying to help remove the negatives that come with such a small word. Fat. It’s not about you, food, clothes or health. It’s just a word to describe a part of your body. Of ALL our bodies.

Oh dear, I can feel this review becoming a bit of a soapbox moment so I will shut up before someone comes and pulls it out from under me and I fall on my arse.

But before I do stop soapboxing, I will say this: I’m a mum of three young kids and two are girls and the other a boy with ASD. So I am constantly reaffirming how awesome they are, how fantastic they look and how terrific it is to be different. I compliment them… but found I was unable to take compliments back when they would say things like “you’re beautiful mummy”. ‘Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls’ has honestly helped me with this bad situation. I might not be a total convert yet, but it’s helped me stop gritting my teeth when I’m complimented. There is no hidden agenda in my kids saying it – just accept it. And I’m starting to now see I can, and will. Affirmation in the making maybe?

Okay, so I better get back to the actual review and not just spouting about how this book has affected me. There is a lot of swearing. But Ms Baker does warn us about it at the start, so no complaints there. It did mean reading affirming parts of it out to my girls needed a bit of mental translation as I went - and that they weren’t allowed to read it over my shoulder - but that’s okay too. It is why I didn’t give it the full 5 stars though, sorry.

My girls may only be 8 and 10 but they are savvy and they are already feeling the effects of the stupid body (and mind) image stigma happening. They’re tall and smart too… fat may still come if they get my genes more than their dad’s. So maybe a less sweary ‘G’ rated version would be good to let girls learn these fantastic truths as they enter the soul hating teen years… not something they can read while recovering from them later. Just a thought. ;-)

Other than that, this is an insightful, inspirational, funny and really, really mind altering (in a good way) book. And it is our minds we need to be altering here. Our bodies are fine the way they are, let them be. Let’s get those stupid mental preconceptions ingrained in our souls, break them down and realise we are what we are, love it, live it and BE it.

Would I recommend this book to others? Oh hell yes. Except maybe my Nanna… not a book for Nanna, too sweary. But yes I would recommend it to EVERYONE else! This is not just a book for we fat girls, that’s just a title. We all have bodies, so we all have body image issues. And so we need more books like this to help us realise we’re all in it together and maybe once we’ve realised that we can start cutting each other (and ourselves) some slack.

Would I buy this book for myself? Yes I would. And I would get my kids to read it, as well as Ms Bakers blog and many of the places she references in it as they’re growing up so they realise that no matter what they look like – that’s awesome as that’s who they are. Whether than start to grow outwards when they stop growing upwards, whether they stay “supermodel thin” once puberty take hold (yeah, good luck keeping slender hips in this family girls) – It doesn’t matter. And I feel every family needs such reference guides to help us all remember how awesome we are (on the outside as well as the inside).

In summary: A powerful, emotional and uplifting book with a lot of swearing in it. ;-) Seriously though, this is a good read. I know I’ve said it before but I feel I need to say it again – not a book about (or just for) fat girls! This is a book for those of us who can’t look ourselves in the mirror without cringing, sighing or dreaming of a better view.

Best thing I got from ‘Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls’ is this: You are what you are. Go with it, embrace it, cherish it and celebrate it. If you're not happy with what you are, it might not be WHAT you are that needs changing, more HOW YOU LOOK AT YOURSELF. Accept who you are, that is not admitting defeat, that is making a stand and moving on with being YOU.

Full of passion. From the heart. Direct. No B.S.

Was sooooo excited to get my copies last week. I bought a few to give away to my girlfriends. I can't help but think how this book would have been so life changing for me when I was a fat pre-teen. I wish this book could be required reading for all young men and women in junior high. I want them all to read it so they can learn sooner than I did that I am LOVEABLE and VALUABLE no matter if I am a size 2 or a size 32. And to help young people to not take any s*** from family or strangers who dish out fat shame and fat hate. This book has a little bit of everything and is a great read for any men or women who struggle with their inner mean voice. Jes is great at passing along coping skills and tools to help us all shut that voice down and amplify the positive juju. Fill your social feed with body posi people like you find in her book is one of the first steps she (and I) recommend.

I really enjoyed the essays (and full disclosure, I do have a short essay in the book, too). I could not wait to read each chapter and read each of the other contributors. I have been in this fat activism full time for over 3 years and I have so much to learn. I am so grateful to Jes and the other authors for all of their insight and for being willing to share all of their wisdom. Each chapter to me was so rich and I loved hearing Jes' voice. She writes like she talks. Direct. From the heart. Full of passion. A social justice warrior. Great book. I highly recommend it!

Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls is an interesting, important book on the body love movement that speaks to everyone, not just the titular “fat girls.” Author Jes Baker fearlessly tackles the body positive movement, taking on not just sizeism, but racism, classism, ableism, and more. Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls encourages women and men of all sizes to challenge what has become completely ingrained in our society: the idea that one type of body (whatever that may be) is the ideal and that anything less is unworthy of love, respect, or dignity.

Intellectually, most of us know that the ideal body image the media sells us is not only physically unattainable for 95% of the population but is also simply corporations capitalizing on people’s wants and fears. However, the way this image has pervaded every aspect of our lives makes it difficult for many of us to fully love our bodies, to fearlessly face a world where we are constantly made to feel “less than,” and to accept the love from ourselves and others that we deserve. Not only that, this picture of the perfect man or woman has an impact on every aspect of our lives, and if you don’t fit in it affects you socially, medically, etc. Ms. Baker’s research and discussion regarding how body love can change the world is insightful. I may not have agreed with absolutely everything in this book, but that’s ok. Ms. Baker challenged my viewpoint and made me look at things in a different light. What she and her contributors succeed in doing by opening up is to make you think, and their words are sure to inspire you to question the information you’ve been fed all your life. Because everybody, absolutely everybody, deserves love, acceptance, compassion, and understanding.

There are simply too many topics in Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls to talk about and for me to try and summarize each would do the book a great injustice. Ms. Baker does her best to be inclusive in talking about the body love movement and her care in doing so makes the book all the better. This is truly the best book on body love I’ve read yet and if you go in with an open mind, you will mostly likely find something to inspire you. Ms. Baker has an intelligent, powerful, funny voice that shines and makes Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls a must read!

The most useful book I have read on this topic.

Love this book. I am an electrical engineer. This self help book is very well written and potentially will save you handreds and perhaps many thousands of $$. It is clear and easy to understand. Competent professional advice in just sufficient detail to help you properly complete your project of becoming disaster-proof. Imagine what can happen during a freezing winter with your house pipes if your electrical power goes off for a day? What are the restoration costs of a flooded unfrozen house? The areas of this book that I liked most are the quick selection checklist with author's pics, the generator comparison examples, and the description of common mistakes commited by some other home generator selection guides. Overall impression: this is the most useful book I have read on this topic.

EXCELLENT guide! Lots of details. Written for the layman. "Professionals" at Generac insisted that I needed a 22 kW system that would cost over $10,000. After doing the calculations from this guide (including the load balancing test) I have a 8750 kW system running off natural gas that powers only what I need to run (including my 4 ton AC) for a total cost of $1200.
