Excellent Textbook

I used this text in a translation class (French-English), and found it easy to teach with, and for the students to understand translation theory (e. g. the seven translation processes, faux amis, etc.). The theory is based on Vinay & Darbelnet's Comparative Stylistics (1958). Each chapter covers one translation process, with numerous examples in both languages, and a series of application exercises. In my opinion, it is currently the best manual for an introductory translation course.

Very good textbook!

According to what I know from other books in translation studies, they remain scarce on details on the translation practice in the now and what to do exactly. Except this one. It seems that they understood this lack of nurturing and that they gathered the how-to's and that they properly assembled a series of chapters and sections that tell what to do regarding what a translator has to do in he now to accomplish his or her work.

This is a 300-level French-English translation course that focuses on unraveling semantic and lexical hurdles/nuances in the inter-lingual translation process. Good, not great

It isn't medical school so much as the boom in Physiology majors and the required Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) class that has sent demand for this kind of flash card soaring. There are basically three competing versions of A&P cards readily obtainable today, and the first two cost about the same:

l) This one from Scientific Publishing, which uses more cards but smaller ones with smaller pictures;

2) The set from Barron's, which has fewer cards in the set but larger cards that are easier to read; and

3) The Netter series, adapted from medical-school flash cards. The set costs about 80 percent more but has the most cards AND the most detailed cards (and most likely the fewest errors).

If you can afford it, go with option 3) because a few dollars more is worth it for a fundamental class like A&P. If you can't, the other two card sets have their merits but my tendency is to go with 2) because the cards are just easier to read--both captions and illustrations--and that matters over time.

Great tool for reviewing

I ordered this for A&P and I love using them as a review. The box is big, but I take the cards out that are only for the section we are going through in class, and keep those in a ziploc bag in my purse or backpack to pull out when I have a few free minutes. They have saved me so much time because they are much better than any review tool I could have made myself. The cards are color coded, have space on the back of the card that contain notes and blank spots where you can write your own notes. I have had so many of my classmates ask me where I got these cards since they are so helpful. I would highly recommend these as an effective study aid for A&P courses.

There are lot of human part didn't put in here instead they just put normal english stuff. For instance, they put "calf" instead of "sural" or "forearm" instead of "antebrachial"

Psychological Testing, Anastasi and Urbina

This text is relatively complete and is an excellent reference for graduate level courses but is frustratingly difficult for undergraduates. For undergraduates, the text is obscure, difficult to understand, and lacks sufficient examples, underlining, italics, case boxes, and other reader's aids. Many of my brightest and best undergraduate students found it very difficult to summarize and retain information abstracted from the text. Most have been highly critical not only of the text but of the very poor selection of test items in the instructor's test bank. Many distractors are nonfunctional, the wording is vague, and the correct alternative is sometimes obscure even on open book/open note tests. It is paradoxical that a text in test theory and construction has produced a test bank with poorly constructed multiple choice items, as my classes have consistently demonstrated through item analysis using the principles outlined in the text! Second, in some areas the text is insufficiently complete for graduate students. Frequently, the authors mention new technologies or approaches but with sufficient lack of detail to be frustrating. Finally, the text suffers from antiquated language (e.g., sentences that begin with: "It will be remembered that ...") and excessive use of the passive voice, making the text unnecessarily difficult to understand.

Not ready for undergraduate Students

In general, if technical information about Psychological Testing is what you are looking for and you have completed a masters program, this text may be perfect for you. Even thought my exposure to this text was for a undergraduate college class. I found it very hard to follow and understand even after the 3rd reading. I found that the material in the text was very in-depth, but lacking chapter conclusions or summaries.

Inappropriate for undergrads but ideal for grad students. Anastasi's classic text (now updated), has transformed generations of "intuitive" clinicians-in-training into serious behavioral scientists. Note that this is _not_ a great sourcebook for how to administer or evaluate _specific_ tests... Rather, it is an outstanding discussion of the science of assessment, e.g., in _general_, what would it mean for a questionnaire to be "valid"? Or, in _general_, what would it mean for a test to be "biased"?
