About the Author
Saundra Hybels teaches communication at Lock Haven University.
Richard L. Weaver is a retired Professor of Interpersonal Communication at Bowling Green State University. He has written more than ten textbooks and is the recipient of BGSU’s faculty-excellence award.

Rent it, but only if you have to have it.

I almost never write reviews, but I had to warn my fellow amazon customers - this book is awful. I had to buy it for a distance-learning graduate course. I resent the forced purchase and regard it as academic welfare: the school required that I have the newest version, apparently to support the authors and publishers of the 11th edition. I can't imagine what this edition could possibly have that the preceding 10 editions didn't, other than new stock photos, modern graphics, a few new terms like "internet"and "multi-cultural." Oh, and the ultra-modern 3-digit price tag.
This book took me back way too many years to high school, when text books were full of densely-worded copy that took too long to read just to uncover small doses of relevant information. To take the curse off the copy, the designers added lots of distracting side-bars and stock photos of happy teenagers doing things that had little or nothing to do with the topics. Since high school I've read a lot of books - for business, continuing education, and pleasure - and none have moved me to write this kind of review.
If you want to learn what's in this book, join Toasatmasters. You'll spend less money, have more fun, and become a better communicator.
